Greener Office Sources

Ooh how fabulous to see website dedicated to “The Green Office“. Now that I work from home I am finally in control and in charge of what sort of furniture we buy, what printer we have and how we recycle things.
I remember in my 12 years in the corporate world, being quite shocked and horrified at the amount of waste going on on a daily basis. My co workers would unnecessarily print out emails and then forget them on the printer. Presentations would regularly be “over printed” with excess copies landing in the bin. Yes, we had SOME paper recycling, but I am not convinced that enough actually went into the recycling bin in the first place.
And it isn’t always JUST about recycling, is it. Actually, a big part about looking after our planet is actually ensuring that the things we “consume” come from the right place to begin with. In my view, ideally, we should be buying recycled paper, then we should be making an effort to use LESS paper and then, finally, as a “last resort”, throw what we have used into the recycling bin. If recycled paper isn’t possible (for whatever reason), then you should be looking for the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) logo to ensure that the paper you are using is coming from well managed forest.
The FSC ensures that paper and furniture are sourced in an environmentally-friendly, socially responsible and economically viable manner – so it isn’t “just” about ensuring that enough trees are being replaced and planted, it is also about ensuring that the growing methods are environmentally friendly (e.g. no rivers being polluted by fertilisers) and that workers are being paid and treated well.
All in all it is great to see more sites like The Green Office popping up, helping you, manage your office in a greener way.
